The K Lazy Three Outfitters has been operating wilderness adventures into the Scapegoat Wilderness area longer than the protective national wilderness status granted it, 37 years to be exact.
2008 will mark the
20th year that I have been a
Licensed Montana Guide for ELK & MULE DEER combining over 28 years of hunting & packing experience with a lifetime of ranching stewardship.
We promise to show you a quality wilderness adventure and lots of Western Hospitality.
When the season changes to fall and the
Elk Begin to Bugle, we turn our full attention to operating our two back country camps in the Scapegoat Wilderness area which are 14 and 18 miles from the Indian Meadow Trail Head. The trail head is 60 miles northwest of Helena, Montana. Our Primary Hunting Focus is
Elk and Mule Deer, however, we are also available for those lucky few that draw a
MOOSE or MOUNTAIN GOAT permit.
We also have the
"Rare" Abilty to offer EARLY SEASON BUGLE ELK HUNTS with our hunters having a 75-80% opportunity for that big bull they came for. These Brow Tine Only hunts are into non-motorized wilderness by horseback which gives the hunter an
Increased Chance for a Trophy compared to other areas.
There is always a 2 hunters to 1 guide ratio and on occasions a 1 on 1 guide/hunter situation where they have a camp all to themselves.
We never have more than 6
Elk hunters at a time.
Our November MULE DEER HUNTS are held in the Deer Creek area on the Gallatin National Forest. This area had a fire go through it in August of 2006 and the 2007 animals were great! As a result the area greened up and we had
Super Mulie Hunting. There are
ONLY spaces for 10 hunters for this Fantastic Opportunity.
Montana is one of the few remaining states where you can
RIFLE HUNT in the Rut, which increases your chances for a trophy!!
2007 Hunting Results:
Final statistics for the Scapegoat:
14 branch bulls (8-6 X 6s) and 2 cows, 3 heavy horned mule deer bucks, giving us a 50% harvest and a 65% opportunity rate! The Scapegoat treated us well this year as always, but the 7 bulls in Camp Creek on the last hunt will have to be in my dreams-for another year.
We took a 9 5/8 inch Billie in the Boulder Drainage and a 40 inch moose out of Meat Rack Creek during the first week of November.
The Deer Creek mule deer camp had 100% + opportunity with 11 out of 12 hunters taking a heavy horned buck or Branch Antlered Bull.
